PROTECTION ORDER INFORMATION
Civil protection orders can be an important part of your safety plan. At PorchLight, advocates from our partner agencies are able to help you navigate the process.

If you are seeking a protection order for another reason, such as a dispute with a neighbor, or an interfamilial conflict, applications can be filed directly at the Jefferson County Courthouse. More information can be found on the Jefferson County Court Website.
SCHEDULE & HOURS
Applications for Civil Protection Orders can be filed Monday through Thursday between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM at both PorchLight and the courthouse. This schedule is determined by the Court. For information on closures and holidays please check the courts closure page.
TYPES OF PROTECTION ORDERS IN COLORADO
CIVIL PROTECTION ORDERS (TPO/PPO)
Sometimes referred to as restraining orders. Civil Protection Orders are requested by an individual who has concerns for their safety and are reviewed by a judge. More information regarding Civil Protection Orders can be found on the Colorado Judicial Branch Website.
MANDATORY PROTECTION ORDERS (MPO)
are put into place automatically by a judge in a criminal proceeding, typically after an arrest. For information regarding the modification of a criminal protection order in Jefferson or Gilpin counties, please contact the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Who provides support and advocacy for protection orders at PorchLight?
Advocates from Family Tree's Legal Advocacy Program, and in cases of elder abuse advocates from the Seniors Resource Center provide support.
Is childcare available?
Yes. Drop-in childcare is available at PorchLight between 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM for those receiving services onsite. No childcare is available at the courthouse.
Can I modify a criminal protection order at PorchLight?
You must contact the First Judicial District Attorney's Office for information about modifying a mandatory protection order.
When can I apply for a protection order at PorchLight?
At PorchLight applications can be filed Monday through Thursday between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM, excluding holidays and court closures.
What if I need additional support or resources?
